I need some “opinions” whether or not you folks would like the option to upload files to this forum. It would allow you to post files and pictures in your posts…especially if it’s a screenshot or similar. Alternatively, you can still stick your file(s) where you want and link to it inside your posts (that’s what everyone else has been doing to this point).

It is a slightly complicated modification and will take some time to complete and test. That aside, my only concern is bandwidth issues and actual usage.

If you like things as they are then I’ll leave it alone.

More members would be nice but I’d rather have a smaller group of active members who contribute good content. At any rate, I have publicized this forum at the other Sony forums and other popular subnotebook related sites such as Leog.net. If you know of other places you want to submit it to please go ahead and do so.

This is a fairly specific forum so it’s not going to attract any people who are not remotely interested in the product so we’re all going to have to help spread the word.

We have surpassed the Yahoo Groups TR site in terms of number of posts and number of posts per day and we have done so within only 2 months of being online. So, I’d say the growth is pretty decent right now. We could attract some more people if I add some non-TR related forum categories as well. That said, would you like to see some other categories added? Off Topic, General Computing, other Sony subnotebooks, etc?

First of all, I want to say that I’m glad you launched these forums, gr00vy. The viewing is much easier than the Y! Group, and ad-free too! As far as uploading pictures goes, it would be a neat feature, especially in case someone’s webspace goes down and the photos/screenshots disappear. It’s by no means a big deal though, and since you’re providing this for free, we wouldn’t want to incur extra bandwidth costs. Also, a general hardware forum would be nice to see, since it seems like a lot of us own other machines besides our TRs.

If you do decide to add the upload files features, I suggest you set a policy of what can be uploaded.  I don’t want this user group get into trouble where user uploading and exchanging files that violates Sony copyright

(*hint most of the sony system files and apps are not supposed to be freely distributed)

Thank Jeo! That’s exactly the kind of issue that concerns me about allowing uploads. The best use of uploads (in my mind) was allowing people to upload screenshots and stuff. I guess we can keep it simple for now and perhaps I’ll just write up examples of how to use other “free” storage sites and link to this site.

I just thought of something gr00vy- is there any way you can let us upload our avatars and have them stored on the site? Sometimes people’s web servers go down, and the page hangs a little while trying to load the avatar. Thanks!

Ok, I figure that’s an easy request to fulfill. You may now upload your avatar to this server. You are limited to 80x80 with a 10KB limit.

Just go to your Profile (look for it in the topmost menu) and from there you can upload your avatar.
