this perhaps should be a sticky note, or deleted from the forum, u decide, but what i noticed about owning a TR1 for almost a year and now a TR3 is this:
* if u dont protect ur screen when u close the lid to travel and whatnot, permanent markings will appear on the surface of the screen that don’t come off.
This happened to the old TR1 and I noticed the beginnings of it with this new TR3 - dust lines or something on the screen in the shape of the keyboard keys. They wiped off easliy enough on the new box but they are permanent on the old box.
So here is what I recommend, although who knows if it works:
I saved the little bit of pink foam packing that was shipped with the laptop and i am using that between the keyboard and the screen whenever i close the lid. i have no idea if this will work - albiewt i use the TR in extreme conditions: outside, on the road, during dry and wet seasons in asia, so my box tends to get pretty dirty and scratched up, but there is nothing worse than marks on the screen inmho.
My PowerBook had a huge problem with this, but the TR is holding up well since there’s large rubber bumpers and adequate space between the screen and keyboard. I still use a Swiffer cloth inbetween though just in case. It’s nice because I can give the screen a quick dusting too.

i bet ur swiffer is saving ya, my guess is that the rubber bumpers on some trs may not be enough, or perhaps over time they flatten out… it took about 8 months on the old tr1 to become a problem. good luck!

its good advice and i had heard about such things before with the powerbooks - so from day one i have been using a little bit of thin foam between the screen and keyboard
Wow. I do the same thing as well with the Swiffer cloth. My Apple iBook did the same exact thing, where keyboard markings would appear on the screen. The Swiffer cloth has worked for me since I bought it in late 2001, so I don’t see why it wouldnt work on the TR.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll cheap out and stay with the swiffer. All the things I’ve heard about the privacy screen haven’t been good… guess its just preference.
yup I’d use the privacy screen only if I would need to do confidential stuff. You’d not want to use it regularly since it screws up the screen..like making it grainy.
[quote author=“deathstar”][quote author=“babahi”]I rarely close my TR, so I haven’t noticed this—it’s always on. BUt that’s good to know, thanks for the tip!

hmm, just curious ... why did you buy a TR?
Even funnier…
I always have a computer on, since I jump onto it all the time, as well as eMule. I also think it consumes less power to have it on than my desktop, although that’s just a guess. It’s obviously mostly off when I travel with it!
