thanks for that Rahul but what does it all mean? i got six cycles at 47.73 on a week old TR3 - so u mean to tell me that batteries can keep track of how many times they have been charged?  If i put in the old batterie from the old TR1 its gunna remember that?

Mine is 47.73 after 15 cycles. Almost, one month use.

What i am trying to do, is to respect the cyle of charge, discharge.

Most of time i am using the tr2mp on battery, and charging again when the battery go low. I am really happy that the power of the tr2 doesn’t decrease when you are on battery. My previous laptop which was using AMD speedstep processor, was really horrible for this, each time you work on battery, the computer to become really really slow.  :(

By this i didn’t leave my laptop plug with the battery attach and electrical plug too often. I hope it will preserve my battery life. I can’t really remove the battery, because most of time of the time i need to take my laptop to go to web cafe or whatever, and i need my battery to be charge at that time.

I doubt the battery has some kind of memory which stores the charge left…probably the utility on the TR itself can determine the charge remaining on the battery. You could compare this to the simple AA duracell batteries which if you would press at the 2 ends a green area would form to indicate the charge left on the battery - if it ran the entire length of the battery it meant the battery held a full charge while lesser than the length of the battery would indicate a less than full charge. However, the TR’s battery may be storing the # of charge cycles in it.

A lot of lithium-ion batteries have microchips inside to help regulate charging, and many laptop batteries have chips to keep tabs on battery conditioning. I know the batteries in Apple’s laptops have this feature, and wouldn’t be surprised if Sony stuck that in the TR’s battery as well. After all, they pioneered InfoLithium technology, so something simpler would be a snap.

Question: how do I minimize the amount of charge cycles?  I mean, I’ve had mine for about three months, and i now have 48 cycles w/  45.78 full charge capacity.  I usually use mine for about three or so hours, and then plug back in, even if not fully drained.  That’s only because my schedule is hectic, and i don’t know if it’ll be out the rest of the day or what.  Any hints on how to extend battery life & reduce charging cycles?

I just worked with someone who said that the “Info Lithium” batteries do have a pre-determined number of charge cycles “programmed” into them and that when you reach that number the battery will no longer take a charge.  I eyed him with skepticism but didn’t have any evidence to disprove his point…except that all of my OLD info-lithium batteries (including cameras and camcorders) continue to charge up.  Has anyone else heard about the limited number of charge theory?

confirmed, the batteries do have some smarts in them that keeps track of charge cycles.  my older TR1 bat says this (1 year old):
59 charge cycles
full charge cap: 45.80
design cap: 47.73

so what are we worried about here? the fcc dropping? meaning less time? 

just buy more batteries - yes? we all know they dont last forever.  probally designed to last as long as mfg warrenty, that’s it. everylaptop i have ever owned, the batteries sucked, but the TR series is the best I have used yet, at least it’s sure to go 2 hours or more. 

thinking about trying the extended one…anyone have a report on that?

Arrgh .... it’s coming again!!! My cycle is now 22 and it’s showing 47.46 at 100% when the full capacity is 47.50. It is refusing to charge up to the max of 47.50 ... I am going to lose another 0.04Wh.  :evil:

ok ... i am just kidding. batteries are consumables, right? LOL  

My question is how long the clone replacement extended battery i just bought on Ebay is going to last.

I paid $140 US for it ,half the price of the Sony.

It seems to be ok. My reasoning was that this company sells replacement batteries for just about every notebook and everyone (according to lengthy feedback) seems to be happy with them.

There’s not much in this forum on these except one person who seems to have had really bad luck with them.
