I really enjoyed reading this site. Thank you all. I learned a lot.
So here’s an FYI and a question:
I checked the Sony Direct Accessories site, and found out that the replacement internal DVD write drive (DVDRW UJ-812 part #179689212) is no longer available from Sony. :(
Instead, after I input the part number, the site reports to me that the old DVDRW drive has been discontintued and that there’s a replacement available part # 179689213 for $434.87 !!! Is this a new and improved DVDRW?!
Does anyone know if this part is an improvement over the old one, i.e. 4X ? :o
Yeah, i believe I was the last one to order the drive for the old price of $275.00. I had serveral conversations with sony representatives before they finally honored the listed price on their website. For some reason they changed the part number to 179689213 and raised the price insanely high… The two parts however, are exactly the same. I was actually asked where I got the previous part # as it has been terminated by their system and instead links to the newer 179689213 part number. When I checked out my cart online, the price didn’t reflect the price difference, but the email invoice/confirmation did. It seems they have since fixed the error in their system and unfortunately, this part will cost future TR members who decide to do the upgrade much more, which totally bites!
I got 2 last week. I had toargue that it is the same product and it is the lowest posted price and when I add it up to the card and pay for it the deal is done and they cannot overcharge me. Although it is a total waste of time. I wont do it again…
[quote author=“GoatCamel”]They raise the price AND it’s not even an upgraded model! :?
Doesn’t surprise me.
My DVD-RW drive was very delayed, I called them weekly to find out why. After nearly 2 months the drive shipped…the website changed the next day. I think they have supply issues.
when u say it can’t read DVD do u mean to say it can’t play the dvd (assuming you’re referring to a movie dvd) or it can’t even recognise the dvd i.e. you can’t browse the dvd contents also?
If you’re able to browse the contents but unable to play a movie dvd, you need a software like cyberlink powerdvd.
