When I turned on my TR for the first time I noticed a darker shaded area to the bottom right of the LCD screen. It isn’t really bad and I can live with it. Amazingly it appears to be going away, and that area of the screen is slowly becoming as bright as the rest of it.

I’ve never encountered this before. Is it normal for a screen to do this?

I don’t believe so.  My Screen came perfectly and evenly bright.  This has come up before, and I think your screen is defective.  But if it’s going away, then that’s good, not bad.  Best to send it back to prevent permanent damage/irregular behavior.
