Hey everyone!  I’m new to the community.  I just got me a nice, new spiffy PCG-TR2AP3, and was wondering if there was a way I could possibly upgrade the internal hard drive from 40GB.  I like to have a lot of space, and since I am mobile most of the time, an internal drive would be the best idea.

If this is impossible, I am also thinking about an external hd enclosure and putting one of my normal-sized HDs in it.

What do you think?

Can’t find the posts now, but the short answer is no.  Currently the biggest 1.8” drive you can get is a 40Gig (although a 60Gig has just been announced.  See this post)

Yeah, that’s what I figured.  Didn’t want to void the warranty either, and there were no instructions or anything in any of the manuals.  Looks like external HD there is.  Anyone know where I can get a low-profile external HD for cheap?  Either that, or I’ll buy an external enclosure for $40-50 and slap a 100 giger in there.

External is the cheapest per GB route…if you get a 2.5” external you usually can get BUS powered, while a 3.5” will usually require you to have external power.

I’ve got a LeClie 40gb external which is in the 2.5” form factor - has a firewire port & the correct cable for a TR. Power comes from a USB port connector that terminates at a 2.5mm socket that fits into the back of the drive.

Seems quite sturdy - took mine round africa for 3 months to backup the photos I took and now its used as a ghost drive for backups.
