I couldn’t figure it out for like 10 mins and almost gave up and typed “Petals around the rose” on google hoping to find the solution..so I landed up on some forum…read the 1st 2 pages or so and none of them gave the solution but most of them emphasized that the name is very important..so that helped me figure out the solution. 

Yeah, I tried to solve it several ways, but then I get to a point in that story where it made me realize I should concentrate on the name of the game.

It was so satisfying when I solved it, yet kinda a let down, compared to some of the other solutions I was trying.

reminds me of the sort of thing that we did last week in the UK - a national IQ test! Hahah!

how many times did u try before looking at the javascript? or did u know abt this game from before?

I knew about it before, but that’s the true think-outside-the-box method.

a friend of mine showed me this game right before a midterm about a week ago, but i didn’t want to screw with the information in my head so i told him i’d look at it later.  well i totally forgot about it, and i’m glad someone brought it up again.  what a great game for a bunch of tr computer nerds.  i bet if we all got together we could come up with some pretty difficult algorithms to solving this “very simple” game. haha. all it all, a fun game to play for a few minutes of fun.

Jeezus christ! finally figured it out after 20 tries!  The more analytically I looked at the problem the more frustrated I got w/ the answer.  I hate these out of the box type thinking questions!  Good luck to everyone else….

Took me 3 tries. Got my first guess right based on a theory that was close but wrong. Next role was incorrect, but I figured out my mistake. Third role confirmed new theory. Fun game.

Reminds me of another dinner table game.  It goes like this:

Take a knife, spoon and fork and make an elaborate shape with them. Make a big show of positiong them just right. Once you’ve made your shape, hold onto the tabletop and ask your guests what number the arranged silverware represents.  Let them guess, and then repeat with a new shape…

Trick - When holding the tabletop, put a different number of fingers on the table.  Your right hand fingers showing are the first digit of the number, the left hand fingers showing are the second digit.  The guests get so enthralled with deciphering the silverware shapes that they miss your hands.  One by one they get it - to the frustration of others (when this was done to me, I was among the last to get it). Also a fun game! (alternative method: the number of fingers showing on both hands are totalled to get to the number)

whoever put that up made me go insane. I was atempting to figure out a really complicated formula. I got so mad I cloesed the window only to keep returning. after I closed it and jumped in the shower, I reolized the answer! I ran out and tryed it. I was right on. wow, that made me very confused! Thanks, was fun!

yup buddy thats the thing..even I was looking at it as a very complicated soln but once I read hints on a forum like “trivial solution” and “name is significant” I was almost immediately able to figure it out.
