I thought I’d post a reminder about a deal that nsx posted here:  

It ends May 31st.

I purchased and just added 512MB last night.  One benefit - the system seems to allocate a minimum of 34MB to the video memory instead of the 4MB minimum that was typically allocated prior to the upgrade.  I know the TR determines the correct amount of memory, but it seems like the new min is 34MB… This has given me some nice performance improvements in the graphics/styles I’m using on my desktop (drop shadows, Y’z toolbar, etc).

Anyone else seeing this?

It’s actually dynamic. It may automatically allocate more to begin with if you have more memory but you can check the status in the Intel driver panel and see how much memory is actually being used. It changes depending on what application you’re using.

Um…. yeah - in the promotion you’ve posted, it appears you need a specific code off of an EverQuest box. 

Tell me how this will work after May 31st - or even now?

To be specific, looking at the system properties (Fn/WindowsKey/Pause), I was seeing 508MB of memory at startup - indicating 4MB allocated to video memory.  Now I’m seeing .99GB (990MB) at startup, indicating 34MB allocated to video memory.

Either way - I’ve noticed a marked improvement in graphics response and performance.

I am quite sad about this promo as I am in Australia and really wanted to buy but :(  they won’t ship OS and the local guys they send you to want the usual Aussie price which is like $250!. Don’t suppose anyone could buy one for me and send it on?  :?:  I had resigned myself ot missing out but thought i might ask for the hell of it. Man, i can’t even get it that cheap off ebay.
