hmmm… ive spent the last two days nearly all my time with surfin the net, searching details and reviews about the tr and finally came here - great board btw!
everything ive read so far sounds extremly well for me, everything at the tr fits in my imagination of a perfect (mobile developer) notebook - but:

isn’t it a little bit too exhausting to look for hours on a 10” 1280x768 screen with tiny source code on it? this is the only fear i have at the moment in view of the perfect notebook…
has anybody some kind of experience with the programming comfort on a tr?

You can always hook the TR up to an external screen. I find the screen is fine, but I would advise on regular breaks.

Thats what I do on my TR…however, i’m 23 so my eyes are still in decent shape. I know people who are 40+ that looked at my source and asked how I stare at it for hours on end.

You can always make the text size bigger…

Don’t be too worried, the screen is razor sharp and crystal clear…

I am probably one of the “older” TR users on this forum and I have no problem with the quality of the screen images.  I find the TR monitor to be one of the easiest to use.  The clarity is fantastic and as mentioned before, if image size is an issue (images are small) then you can increase their size or wear glasses.  I would recommend checking out the display in person before committing to the TR.  Some of my contemporaries don’t want to adjust to the “glasses requirement”.  Personal preference will be a factor.

i do some development on the TR, and like the other members, reiterate that the clarity of the screen is incredible.

that said, at work i use a 19” external dell monitor i got off of ebay, and set the resolution on the TR to 1024x600, which i then use for IM/email and work on the big screen.  when i’m out travelling (like now), the small screen’s all I need.

but yes…..go to the store and play around for a bit with one first.

I’ve done a little C programming for my course on the TR while in bed and when tired I just upped the font size and all was fine…

i’ve been diong a bunch of programming on my tr in the last couple of months.  between classes and senior project, i’ve basically lived on campus with the tr.  generally, i would say that my eyes feel just fine, but taking a break every couple of hours or so isn’t a bad idea.  being around computer nerds all day i often get asked i could possibly stare at the small screen for hours on end, but honestly i haven’t really felt any negative effects thus far.

I use my TR on programming also. I’m currently using visual studio.net,programming on C/C++, and VB. They both are running fine, except too cramped keyboard and tiny screen.

Yeah, programming is a go.  But it’s also possible to use the ‘magnify’ button the right hand side in order to up the screen readability.  But if you already have problems with comp. resolutions, the TR is probably not your best bet. Especially if you have already-present ocular degeneration.  Buying a large monitor aside with the TR is, though.

I use the TR to program Delphi and PHP. The screen resolution is nice because you have enough space for tool windows.  Works perfect. But i whould never use the magnify button - just increase the editor font size.

Do all my programming and even graphics with my TR.  Simply use the magnify button or adjust your dpi.
