Ok assuming that you have a desktop which is going to act like a server and a laptop which is going to sync to it, you need to enable ‘offline files’ on the laptop. If you open ‘My Computer’ and go ‘Tools’, ‘Folder Options’ and then click on the tab at the top for ‘Offline Files’ and select ‘Enable offline files’.
Then on the desktop you need to have shared the folder that you want to access on the laptop. Right click on the folder and select ‘Sharing and Security’ then ‘Share this folder’.
Back on the laptop you now browse in ‘Network Places’ to this shared folder and right click on it and choose ‘Make available offline’. This will then cause a copy of all the files/folders in that directory to be copied to your laptop. Now the next time that you are off your network you can still access these files by browsing to it, through network places, in the same way as if you were still on the network.
Next time you are back on the network you will be prompted to sync your files so that any changes you made are copied back onto your desktop. This works in both directions so you just have one set of files to work with.
Hope this is a little clearer now…. Took me a while to sort it all out!!
