True…the $2.35 I pay for gas is bad but not as bad as some other places. I remember being in England in around 2000-2001 when there was that crazy strike and “petrol” price skyrocketed like mad! People were forced to queue up at 4am in the morning just to get enough to drive into work. Nuts! Good thing my buddy had a diesel engine so he was able to avoid the lines.

It may not be long before we see similar action again, as a proposed price increase put forward from the government a few months ago is coming in to effect soon. Trouble is, will oil price increases recently, we’re already paying 80pence a litre!
Many car makers are coming out with Hybrid engines. Toyota, Honda, Ford, and the like are placing these engines in more than just the low end gas savers. All three above mentioned companies are putting them in mid-sized SUV’s. You can just imagine where we could be with this 10 years from now if it catches on. :D
it’s been said that by the time the full summer vacation driving season is in swing, the price will reach $3 bucks a gallon in california. most ppl dislike the prices, but can still afford them, so their lives don’t change much. as for me, a young starving student, the gas price has been killing me. i just quit my job, too…. so you can imagine how fast my savings account is dying.

It is nice to be working and to have some cash to spend. However, years from now after you have been working a while, you will look back and think about what a great time you had in college!
[quote author=“invisiblefly”]Will GAS price goes up to $3 a gallonn???? in CA:? :?
Simply put… yes.
IMHO, even if OPEC increases their production like the G7 is “demanding”, the worlwide demand is increasing partly due to the modernization of countries like the PRC (China).
As no one over here in good old USA wants new refineries in their backyards and environmentalists claim that a refinery anywhere is bad, it doesn’t look too promising. We should be investing mounds of R&D money towards the usability of alternate energy sources. Hybrid vehicles are a stop-gap measure at the very best, but will we abandon our gas-guzzling SUVs? I doubt it, and that’s why automakers are scrambling to introduce hybrid SUVs, etc.
Is there a bright side? I try to see a few:
- We will learn to rely less on foreign sources of energy (=less wars?)
- As Americans, we will rekindle our ability to be inovative and focus on new energy sources (although we have lost a lot of that spirit over the years).
- Gas prices here in the USA are still a bargain compared to most other countries in the world. In Europe and South America, gas prices have been much higher.
2000 Ford Windstar Cargo Van with 28 gallon fuel tank. It looks like a standard mini-van with windows, however the interior is custom finished. I use it for daily commuting, camping, and hauling. Best all-around and practicle vehicle I’ve ever had.
I had planned to switch over to a hybrid until I started hearing about the cost in replacing the battery system. It seems the sales people don’t tell you the battery system is +/- $3000 (depending on vehicle) and that it needs to be replaced every 4 or 5 years depending on use. It really isn’t worth spending the extra money a hybrid costs. Yes your annual fuel costs are far less, but that replacement battery will eventually eat up those savings.
