how possible is it to fit a new screen to a tr2? The screen i have seen is very severly damaged with cracks all over the place. And how much is a new screen?

From what I’d heard on this forum, Sony might charge upto USD 700 for the entire procedure.

There is a TR on ebay right now without a screen…i was considering it, but I agree, a screen will most likely be over $500 from sony.

I no longer see it, either it was sold or pulled. It was a TR2…I think A. It has a missing LCD…I don’t remember what else was missing. I have no clue the price, but it was over $500 because I didn’t consider it.

when u say screen missing do u actually mean the cover was not at all present or had damages like Mrs Gadget’s TR?

Just wondered what sort of costs were invoved? Also they had removed all the ram!

no RAM, no battery, no charger, he’s not even sure it works fine…what an absolute piece of junk!

thankgod the harddisk, processor and cdrw/dvd are there or else he would literally be selling just the outer casing.

Yup, that was it. Sold for $600 USD…and was missing the battery and ram.

Had everything been there except the screen I would have bought it.

I figured this way…$500-600 for a new screen (worst case), $150 or so for a new battery, $100 for 512 Kingston Ram…

$600 <-Ebay
$500 <-Screen
$150 <-Battery
$100 <-Ram
———
$1,350

I paid $1,800 new…saving $500 and going through all that assuming it works, which it might not, is not worth it.

The HD was worth about $100-150…the keyboard, another $50…maybe $100 for the CD-DVD drive…

Too much of a risk.

i just looked through the hole service manual and found the part numbers of following screen-parts with prices from   :

front-display-case:
A-8115-923-A [ASSY BEZEL DISPLAY (S)]: $87.78

display itself:
A-8068-213-A [LCD UNIT (10.6 TFT WXGA)]: $449.95

back-display-case:
A-8115-847-A [ASSY DISPLAY FC (S)]: $159.24

so you have to look where the cracks and scratches are… i was supprised when i saw how “cheap” the display-unit is, i thought about $600 and more..

But of course you realize, you do not take into account the amount of hours and energy you put into repairing this TR. Sure, it might be 500 less than list price, but you forget about the warranty, peace of mind, as well as the sheer amount of effort to repair the screen and insert it back into the TR.  Good luck, though. Should be fun.  :?
