After ‘testing’ how the real world works for 3 months…a steady 8-5er…i’ve decided it’s just not for me. I gave my notice to my boss today, i’ve given him one week to find my replacement (thats all he really needs) and I have a meeting with the owner of the company tomorrow when he returns from his business trip.
It’s time to go back to my own companies…no bosses, no b/s deadlines, no backstabbing, no hassle…
I’ve accepted my invitation to law school, starting in September…so I will be off to Michigan in August…finally severing all ties to my own companies.
Just thought i’d share my plans…off topic and all…
I thought you just got that position…oh well, being on your own is great though. I’m loving it despite the pain in the butt with the non-work related stuff like billing, admin work, marketing, etc.
gameson - I own several computer companies (well, I own one, I am a partner in 2 others). My first company I opened when I was 14 years old…the others I formed in College. It’s kept me out of the 9-5 thing all my life…I tried this to see what it was like getting a weekly paycheck, it wasn’t for me. Luckily I serviced my major clients at night and on weekends so when I re-open in 2 weeks I will be able to jump right in.
I don’t have any retail locations, just consulting/programming from my office…which I paid for rent while I was at my new job.
[quote author=“JJ”]Shoot now we can’t trust a word you say and we won’t understand a word you write. And then, you will bill us to explain it all to us.
And backstabing - wait till you get to law school!

I did just get it…less then three months ago…I haven’t even gotten heath yet (that kicks in at 3 months). Yeah, being on my own is def. what I want right now…when I work for a firm, thats another story…
Honestly, the only thing I liked about the office environment, was the people I met…i’ll miss them.
Yes…I do miss the camaraderie of coworkers (especially if they were good people). As much as my clients love me and my work, I try to keep my distance. Of course, when I think about the idiots and bureaucratic losers who worked with me then I’m glad I’m on my own.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Yeah, but how about the cute women? I’ll miss my graphic designer and sales manager terribly…seeing them everyday for 2 months was worth the hassle.

You obviously didn’t work for a big tech company.
Actually, it was too big, that was one of my issues. 11 smaller companies, over 20 states, 7 countries…very hectic trying to get something done.
Sadly, they separated marketing (women) from engineering (men) here. It’s ... boring ... to say the least.
Ohh ic what you mean.
No…my main office only employed 50 people, and I worked with almost everyone there for one reason or another (again, part of the reason i’m leaving, I got 10 roles to fill). It was nice having 2 secrateries…that i’ll miss.
I am not the only one unhappy though…I did the math…in the 2.5 months I was there, 7 people quit. The friday I am leaving, so is the sales manager…she got a job with the department of defense.
The company has gotten too large for their own good…things need to settle down a bit and become more stable…either way, it’s not for me.

Well, the last company I worked for didn’t have any cute women. Even in the frickin’ design department! Well, I take that back there may have been one or two but definitely not hot enough to make it worthwhile. Of course, when they shipped me out to Paris, France for one year I did not complain even though they worked me 12-15 hours a day. The girls in the French office were amazingly hot and genuinely nice. Ah…the two Sophies…I miss you both.
The one thing I would like to do is be a people watcher. It is facinating to see what makes people say what they say and do what they do. Unfortunately, this job doesn’t pay well. So I try to do it in my spare time (like observing this thread).
