Which Model would you guys recommed??
TR3A
TR3AP/1
TR3AP/2
New Egg has the best prices, that I have found.
TR3AP/1 is 2059
TR3AP/2 is 2369
300 bucks seems a lot for another 512mb of ram.
Does the computer run better with the 1 gig of memory?? I kinda think XP PRO is a must, so the TR3A is kinda out and I really don’t need the DVD Burner. I would like the Bluetooth inside, but not worth it at this point.
So It’s the AP/1 or AP/2
What ya think??
If the RAM is the only difference then definitely go in for AP1 and buy the 512 mb RAM separately. Some online store was selling it for as low at 99 bucks!!
Here’s the link for the place where they are selling the RAM for 99 bucks.
depends on your budget and what ‘re u going to use it with. I was in the same situation like u do when i bought my TR2AP1. Which one to buy??? “AP1 vs AP3” 300 bucks difference. hmm it took me several days. Eventually, I decided to buy AP1 (512mb ram). I think i dont really need 1 gig(maybe for now and within-several years.) I just use my TR for doing hw,go online, some little games, music, and movies most of the time. On the other hand, if you really need performance then i will be worth it to get AP2 instead of AP1 now.
IF your not afraid to upgrade on your own, take the cheapest possible. You can turn a T1 into a T5 execpt the 200MHZ difference in clock speed…thats it.
TR3AP/2
Why not.
Thanks for the imput.
btw, my friend has one, a TR3A and he was telling me he was have some video problems. When he watches a DVD the movie is somewhat choppy and the program crashes.
Any problems with this going on??
Yeah, I’ve seen some people mention this as a problem and I’m not sure why. It’s silky smooth on mine and I have the original TR1AP. I think it might be a setting in WinDVD that’s not correct. Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled. Also, you may want to adjust the performance settings for the system. You can change the power profile to the DVD setting to see if makes a difference.
seven37, the choppy dvd playback happened to me and I narrow down the problem to the wireless card. I never have the dvd playback problem at home but once I went to my friend’s store where there’s many wireless access points around. My wireless card would on a regular interval search and try to connect to one of the AP, and when that happens, the dvd playback pauses slightly. By turning off the wireless card, the dvd playback went back to normal.

So if the wireless card is serching for a network, just turning off the wirelles switch on the front of the computer doesn’t stop the card from serching?? I would have to turn off an internal setting as well??
I spoke to my friend about this, and he said the wireless switch was off on the front of the computer and he was on an airplane trying to watch the movie and it got so bad the the dvd program was crashing. And it was not the dvd he was watching, he even tried another dvd. This worries me a bit because I plan on watching a lot of movies on planes.

I wonder if he has something running in the backround (ie Spyware) thats hogging resources…my TR plays movies fine.
You may want to try opening task manager while you’re trying to watch the movie and check out which tasks are running. See if there are any other processes using a lot of CPU time. The DVD software should be using the most…but it should still be no more than 30-40%. If it’s using more then your DVD software is not configured correctly.
My TR at 900Mhz never skips a beat with DVDs so it’s definitely some software issue.
Did you change the Power Profile to DVD? That forces the CPU to run at performance levels (i.e. MAX) and should also run DVDs without any problems.
