Ok, so I have been thinking about this idea for awhile and the only thing holding me back is possible legal issues.

What does everyone think about a site that anyone could access and download software for free…software that is recovery software for computers?

So, if I needed a TR2A set of recovery cds, I could go to this site and download it. The software is free and it is useless unless installed on a correct computer (the same thing as buying it from a manufacturer, except they will make you pay mostly for the production of the cds and the shipping).

I wouldn’t make any money from it and would also look for users to donate cds to be added to the list.

What do you all think?

I am interested.  I have a TR2AP without any media.  Gag huh?  Oh, well..  I have availible space… around 3.2 TB.  Let me know if you want to do this..

Thats a really nice idea. But you mentioned it… the legal isues would have to be discussed. And whoever offers the downloads would have to finance the server too. So… Id rather recommend those of you who have no media to recover the TR to just build your own. I have discribed how to do it on the old forum.

-back up your data
-get a windows xp installation CD from somewhere (borrow or download)
-you might want to integrate SP2 onto the media
-make a fresh install
-activate xp with your serial (you might have problems - I described them on the old forum)
-install all driver and your personal standard programs
-back up using Ghost or Acronis
-burn a bootable DVD/CD

I have kind of given up on this thegadget. Personally, it is my opinion that if someone has recovery CDs for a laptop / desktop and chooses to use it to restore the system, all that should matter is the owner of the system has the COA attached to the unit. The software was only a means as to recover the system and will not work with other brands. As I had said before, many manufacturers only charge to cover the plastic and the handling fees for the recovery CDs.

But I get the feeling about the time I launch something like this, all the companies will be breathing down my neck and threatening a lawsuit.

Anyway, the idea was to be for any and all recovery CDs I could get, not just Sony and/or the TR.
