Hi!
I have a four months old Sony Vaio VGN-T150 (PCG-4C1L)laptop computer.
I bought on 1 december 2004,the place is the Sony store at Eaton Center, Toronto, Canada.
It is currently running Windows XP home.
My computer has been great have a region free DVD, but last monday my computer won´t start up.
I couldn’t really access my computer at all.
I tried everything, the Safe Mode.
My computer would not start up, go to the setup bios screen it´s impossible.
I couldn’t really access my computer at all.
The procedures was
1 plug the AC adaptor to outlet
2 press the power button
THe powerlights would be on as if the computer were still on standby,
but I couldnt get rid of the blank screen.
I would have to manually shut down the computer and restart it,and the same thing happens.
If i try to turn on with batterie, the power light and the batterie light is on.
If i try to turn on without batterie, only the power light is on.
The HD light turn on twice and stop.
Nothing happens.
Power light continues on and i have to press power button for 5 seconds to turn off.
My computer would NOT go to the screen where it says Sony Vaio, it doesnt do anything.
It´s a blank screen.
I can hear the hard drive spinning for a few seconds, but not for long.
The hard drive light does light up or blink twice and stop.
The power lights go on when I start the computer, but then they just sit there.
I’m totally stuck.
What procedures to test this computer and check what happen?
Thanks a lot!
I hope you didn’t leave it a low temperatures.. It might be the RAM got busted.. it’ll be good to test if you have an extra Micro-dimm module for your T150..
Jrbusca, sounds like you get to have an experience with Sony support. Just call them up, send them the computer. They’ll fix it and return it (but without the data on your disk.)
Before you do that, there is one more thing you can try. Turn the computer off (hold power 5 seconds). Remove the battery for several minutes. Then try one more time. But it sounds to me like this won’t work, and you’ll have to call Sony. :(
Try opening the door on the bottom and removing and reseating the RAM. If that doesn’t work, try putting only one DIMM in at a time. Otherwise, I’d say it’s a motherboard issue. The usual suspects (power, HD) don’t seem to be the problem.
Backup is going to be damn tricky. Your only real option if the RAM reseating doesn’t work is to put the current HD into either another laptop or an external HD enclosure. It’s a 1.8” HD, so your options for both are extremely limited.
One final thing: “data” and “info” are already plural nouns.
I’m not sure you can reseat the RAM on the T150. The TR has two sockets you can remove both RAM sticks if you wish. The T150 has a different arrangement. It looked to me like it would be difficult to remove / reinsert. But I could be wrong.
deichenlaub: The RAM is the only possible user-servicable part I could think of that could cause the problem he’s having.
jrbusca: RAM might unseat itself from an impact shock. I own a TR, not a T, so I can’t direct you to all the screw holes. (Circuit City and CompUSA tend to frown on unscrewing the demo models) The only thing I can suggest is follow any arrows on the bottom.
There is a reset button on the bottom of the TR series that seems to have helped in these cases. I don’t know if the T series has it or not. Removing the battery for a few minutes won’t hurt to try but you should also try the reset button if you have one.
Try pressing it with a pointy object with the battery in and the battery out while disconnected from AC power.
There’s no reset button on the T in the documentation. I have never found anything that looks like a reset button on my PC. The online documentation and the Sony site both have excellent instructions on getting to the RAM. Don’t remove all the screws! You only remove a couple of screws. The RAM is under the keyboard. After you remove the screws, you have to push two tabs back towards the battery compartment. (Look closely with a bright light). That’s the only tricky part. The rest is just like they say in the book.
Here is my T250P but I think it is same with your T150.
1. Remove all screws at bottom.
2. Remove keyboard and unplug its cable.

3. Remove two screws under keyboard.
4. Remove left and right hinge cover. Right hinge cover is easy to remove. Left hinge cover have two latches. Open it by slide it out.
5. Remove one more screw under left hinge cover.
6. Unplug all cables.
7. Now, push LCD back to max of you can.
8. Lift top cover. There are two latches in front of base.
9. Final, you can see all components inside T series.
Good luck.
P.S: Please do with your all risk. I can not responsible for any damages by these. Please understand, thank you.
